Hello all –
I am incredibly pleased to announce that the Indiana Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators (ILA) is a recipient of a Platinum Level Presidents Award of Excellence for 2008-2009. I want to thank Jennifer Ellis, 2008/2009 President, for her insightful guidance during her tenure, the hard-working and dedicated Board members who went above and beyond what is asked of them, and each and every chapter member who participated in a variety of chapter projects and activities that propelled our chapter to the top level. This honor is indicative of the commitment and volunteerism evident with our members. There is a reason that volunteers are not paid. It is not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless. Thank you to everyone!
In a world of changing economic conditions, new developments in the practice of law, and the continuing innovation in technology that the law firm administrator must focus on a daily basis, the ILA strives to provide support and the education necessary to stay informed. The ILA serves the legal community in a variety of ways. The Chapter conducts monthly educational luncheon meetings which encompasses a variety of timely topics. These luncheon meetings are also a great venue to get out of the office and enjoy networking with friends and peers. If you are not a current member and would like to attend a luncheon, please contact me. You can be our guest at lunch. We would love to have you visit us. Once you have had the chance to participate, you will come away with the understanding and appreciation for what the Chapter can provide to you and your firm.
In addition to the monthly educational luncheon meetings, we have periodic extended educational seminars. With the payment of your dues there are several programs and networking opportunities made available. Every year the Chapter participates in the Community Challenge Weekend that is held in conjunction with the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) headquarters and encourages participation from every chapter across the country. We also have a Business Partner Showcase in March. We hold a golf outing in July. Enjoy a fun evening with dinner and a speaker at our Managing Partner Dinner held in September. We also celebrate the holiday season with a delicious lunch in December. The Chapter sponsors a couple of ALA Webinars each year that is open to each Chapter member free of charge. Take a moment to review the Calendar of Events and plan to attend as many of the activities as possible.
The Chapter offers several scholarship opportunities throughout the year. Last year for the Region 2-3 Conference held here in Indianapolis, we had 14 members attend on scholarship. We offer Annual Conference Scholarships and additional educational scholarships that can be used toward any of the ALA offered conferences throughout the calendar year.
Chartered March 13, 1974, with a current membership of approximately 80 members representing private law firms, government agencies, and corporate legal departments throughout Indiana, the Chapter continues to grow. The members range from functional specialist in every imaginable specialty to office administrators from solo practitioners to some of the nations largest firms.
