Welcome to the website of the Indiana Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators. The Association of Legal Administrators is the undisputed leader in the business of law and law practice management.  Our Chapter has approximately 74 members representing private law firms from solo practitioners to some of the nation’s largest law firms, government agencies, and corporate legal departments throughout Indiana.  The members are comprised of legal administrators/managers with expertise in the areas of Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, Benefits Administration, Office Administration and Facilities & Operations Management.  Through the help and participation of many of our members, we were able to earn the Presidents’ Award of Excellence for the fifth consecutive year.  We are able to accomplish this level of success because of how well our members work together and enjoy each other's company.  There is no better way to grow in the legal field than with the support of ALA.

On behalf of our entire Chapter, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our many loyal Business Partners who have supported our Chapter for many years and to welcome those Business Partners who are new to our Chapter this year.  We thank you for the many privileges and educational opportunities you afford us through your generous sponsorships and your business and product advice in all areas of our daily work.  If you are interested in becoming a Business Partner, please contact Debi Marple at dmarple@hallrender.com.

One of our greatest achievements as a Chapter was the development and ongoing work with students at Shortridge High School An IB World School through the L.I.F.E. Beyond Shortridge Program.  This program provides training and mentoring to students who enter the program with many applying for internships with local law firms and business partners. Since the program’s inception we have supplied 35 paid internships with our member firms, our business partners, and the Indiana State Bar Association.  Many of these students are going on to college to further their education and we have had some students continue to work with their internship employer even after they graduated from Shortridge. This program would not be possible without the vision of Jenny Ellis and the efforts of Abigail DeCoursey, who manages the internship program, as well as our members and business partners who actively participated to develop this program from the beginning.  The L.I.F.E. program has been recognized nationally by the ALA on numerous occasions and we have been asked to assemble materials so it can be duplicated across the country. If you are interested in giving one of these students an internship opportunity this summer, please contact Abigail at adecoursey@betzadvocates.com and she will be happy to assist you.

The Chapter conducts monthly educational luncheon meetings which encompass a variety of timely topics.  If you are not a current member and would like to attend a luncheon, please contact Lisa Matheson at Lisa.Matheson@Quarles.com to attend as our guest.  I am confident you will come away with an understanding and appreciation of the value the Chapter can provide to you and your firm.  If you aren't able to attend a luncheon, we have podcasts as well as guest speaker handouts available for you to view post-meeting.

With the payment of your dues there are several programs and networking opportunities made available. In addition to the monthly educational luncheon meetings, we have scheduled:

  • Educational Forum & Business Partner Exhibition
  • Golf Outing with Members and Business Partners
  • Annual Partner Dinner
  • Community Connections Service Project
  • Annual Holiday Lunch
  • Networking Events with Business Partners
  • Periodic extended educational seminars

Please take a moment to review the Calendar of Events and plan to attend as many of the activities as possible.  For more information on joining ALA, please contact Laura Rust at lrust@lewiswagner.com.

Thank you for visiting our website and please come back to visit us often to see what is new and exciting in ALA.  We are very proud of what our Chapter has to offer.  Use the information provided to learn more about our Chapter and all that we of ALA can offer you.  We strive to assist you to be your best at your profession in the legal field.
