ALA Platinum Chapter Award

The Indiana Chapter was chartered March 13, 1974, and has a current membership of approximately 75 members representing private law firms from solo practitioners to some of the nation’s largest law firms, government agencies, and corporate legal departments throughout Indiana. The members are comprised of legal administrators with expertise in the areas of finance, HR, marketing, benefits, general administration, facilities management and everything in between. Through the help and participation of many of our wonderful members, we were able to earn the highest Presidents’ Award of Excellence and received the Platinum award for the second year in a row in 2012, and I look forward to working with all of you to earn that award again during this next year.

On behalf of our entire Chapter, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our many loyal Business Partners who have been supportive of our Chapter for many years and to welcome those Business Partners who are new to our Chapter this year.  We thank you for the many privileges and educational opportunities you afford us through your generous sponsorships and your business and product advice in all areas of our daily work lives.   If you are interested in becoming a Business Partner, you can contact Nancy Huffman at

The Indiana Chapter is pleased to continue working with several returning students and a few new students at Shortridge Magnet High School for Law and Public Policy through the L.I.F.E. Beyond Shortridge Program.  Many of these students recently participated in an essay competition and a few were chosen to read their essays at a Chapter lunch meeting.  What a wonderful opportunity for all of us to be able to bring these individuals into our Firms through summer internships to teach them first-hand about all of the different jobs available at all levels within our organizations.  The internship program has been such a great success over the past few summers with 9 students being placed with participating law firms and our Business Partner, IST Management Services last summer.  Thank you to Jenny Ellis for her continuing efforts in growing this program and to Abigail DeCoursey who manages the internship program, as well as, all of our members and Business Partners who have actively participated to help grow this awesome program. If you are interested in participating by giving one of these students an internship opportunity this summer, please contact Abigail at and she will be happy to assist you.

The Chapter conducts monthly educational luncheon meetings which encompass a variety of timely topics. If you are not a current member and would like to attend a luncheon, please contact me and you are welcome to attend as my guest. I am confident you will come away with an understanding and appreciation of the value the Chapter can provide to you and your firm.

With the payment of your dues there are several programs and networking opportunities made available. In addition to the monthly educational luncheon meetings, we have:

  • Periodic extended educational seminars
  • Educational scholarships that can be used toward any of the ALA-offered conferences throughout the calendar year
  • Community Connections Community Service Project (October)
  • Business Partner Showcase (March)
  • Golf Outing (July)
  • Managing Partner Dinner (September)
  • Holiday lunch (December)
